Petty Enterprises has called a news conference for Wednesday morning with a lineup of speakers that includes team owner Richard Petty and drivers Kyle Petty and Bobby Labonte.
Richard Petty, the seven-time Cup champion and owner of the team, said Sunday that he was closing in on a deal to bring in an investor and could have an announcement by the middle of this week. He would not comment if that investor is Boston Ventures, one of the investment groups that Petty reportedly was negotiating with.
Labonte, who is unsigned beyond this year, said Sunday that he might also have news this week about his future. The 2000 Cup champion is 19th in driver points in the No. 43 Petty Enterprises car.
The subject of the news conference was not included in the media advisory put out by the team.
