Sam Hornish Jr. has only two starts at Chicagoland Speedway in a stock car – and both of them were in the old International Race of Champions series. But the 1.5-mile track has a lot of memories for the former Indy Racing League driver, and he’d like to carry his open-wheel success there into NASCAR.

Hornish won two IndyCar races at Chicago and won the pole and finished third in 2006, his final championship season in the IRL.

“Chicagoland Speedway has always been a great place for me to go either because I celebrated an IndyCar Series win or clinched a championship there,” Hornish said.

Hornish moved to NASCAR in 2008 and ranks 33rd in the Sprint Cup points standings heading into this weekend’s LifeLock.com 400 at Chicago.

“I’m excited to race there in a stock car this weekend,” Hornish said. “The track is somewhat similar to Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway, and I’ve enjoyed racing at those tracks, too.

“We had a lot of success recently at Charlotte, and we are bringing the same car to Chicago this weekend. Hopefully, we can build upon that success and finish strong on Saturday night.”

Hornish finished second in the Sprint Showdown at Charlotte in May to advance to the Sprint All-Star Race, where he finished seventh. He then finished 13th in the following week’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte for his best finish of the season.
