Hendrick Motorsports' Mark Martin sets early pace at Atlanta Motor Speedway
HAMPTON, Ga. – Hendrick Motorsports’ Mark Martin led the day’s lone practice session for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams today at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Martin turned a fast lap of 189.409 mph during the session. Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) was second at 189.260 mph.
Kasey Kahne (Richard Petty Motorsports), Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing) and Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) completed the top five.
Four-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), was seventh fastest in the session, while series points leader Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing) was 26th.
Casey Mears (Keyed-Up Motorsports) brought out the only caution during the practice when he lost an engine in his No. 90 Chevrolet.
Qualifying for Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500 is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. EST today.
