Hendrick Motorsports' Mark Martin will return to drive the No. 5 full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2010.

Hendrick Motorsports' Mark Martin will return to drive the No. 5 Chevrolet for the entire 36-race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in 2010.

It will be the 22nd full-time Cup campaign of Martin's career and his second with car owner Rick Hendrick.

Last July, Martin signed a two-year contract with Hendrick Motorsports covering one full Sprint Cup season in 2009 and one part-time schedule of 26 events in 2010. The revised agreement was signed this week.

"Week in and week out, Mark continues to be one of the best race car drivers in the world," Hendrick said. "He's already made an incredible contribution to Hendrick Motorsports, and our entire company is excited about running another full season and winning races with him in 2010."

With his April 18 victory at Phoenix, Martin became just the fourth driver to record 400 top-10 finishes in Sprint Cup competition. It was his 36th career win in NASCAR's top series.

"It means a lot to drive the No. 5 Chevy for Rick and for Hendrick Motorsports," said Martin, 50, of Batesville, Ark. "I'm in the best condition of my life, I'm recharged, and I'm motivated. Going to the race track every weekend is still really fun, and that's the key. There's more gas in my tank."

Zzzzz zzzzz zzzz zzz..... what a shocker. yawn..... At least this means Keselowski won't end up at HMS next year. Unless Junior gets fired or quits or something.

Keselowski would definitely get more wins than over-rated Jr.

Send Jr. back to the minors...

Keselowski & Martin Truex, Jr. are both going to end up driving in cup for Dale Jr under his JR Motorsports banner-- either in 2010 or by 2011... And just like Stewart/Haas racing, those teams will be staffed and supplied by Hendrick Motorsports-- effectively giving Rick Hendrick an EIGHT CAR team-- if you do the TRUE math and add Brad and Martin (when their JR Motorsports cup deals are announced) and the already exisiting "Hendrick" teams of Tony Stewart & Ryan Newman to Hendrick's current stable of drivers. Love him or loathe him, Rick Hendrick is a GENIUS!

Glad to hear that Mark is going to give it another run. This year wasn't the start that he wanted, and if you had an opportunity with Hendrick to do it all over again, you'd have to be crazy not to do it.

And Ashley, Hendrick is a genius. He's got a 4.5 car team (4 plus the part-time 25), and can use the 14, 39, 09, or 78 as a test session if he wants, since none of those teams are wanting to end their support from him. Rumor has it that the #78 team won't have Regan Smith next year. I sense a signing by them of Keselowski, coupled with sponsorship from some of Hendrick's sponsors that will allow him to run the full schedule next year with the #78 team. I don't know why that seems to be what'll happen, but it's looking more realistic than going to SHR when they don't have both their cars fully funded yet. Watch for a points swap though between a Hendrick (or SHR) team though if Brad gets signed. Hendrick won't allow one of his developing drivers to fail to qualify.

Mark is twice the driver Brad is so why would Hendrick want Brad instead of Mark. Brad will probably drive for Dale Jr. if he can get a sponsor to run cup with him. Sorry guys! Brad is no where close to the wins Dale Jr. had in the Busch series and this article was about Martin not Dale Jr. Grow up #1 and #2!

Word is that the 1 year deal will be a 2 year deal and will end in 2011. Don't be surprised if Dale goes to his own JR Motorsports in 2010 with the 88 and AMP. Word is Dale is getting frustrated and let Rick know about it on Monday morning. Brad is a HMS signed driver and he will either run a full ROTY season with full sponsorship in the #25 car in 2010. We will have to wait and see.

True, he doesn't have a championship, but he does have class, and he drives clean. That's more than you can say for many of the drivers out there. Seems to me there may be a couple of other drivers out there without championships, too. Can't think of many drivers out there that can match is "first loser" record, either.

What I can't understand is WHY they bash him for racing since he is certainly one of the best, EVER. I didn't like that he stepped down from the 6 to the 5, but other than that I am still a fan. - - - HOW many of the OTHER drivers out there have won five (5) IROC championships??? Guess what? NO ONE! And THAT is the driver, not the car.

Although I think they have their chance now as well! When drivers have raced for years I know it has to be hard to let go of the sport they love so much! Sorry Mark is unable to make reasonable decisions. He can't make up his mind. That is why I think he needs a new home. Where did Brad fit in with Mark Martins premium choice 26 race schedule? I was never a Martin fan. Before too long all the teams will be owned by Hendrick or Roush. Rick's sucess of owning all the other teams is really NASCAR's blind eye. Own two cars rule, put others in someone elses name. Four cars, start other race teams. Don't worry Brad you will do much better with a team that didn't bow down to Mark Martin. Talk with Rowdy! Joe Gibbs is great.

These "anti mark" posters crack me up!!

Jr isn't good enough to be a catch can man on Mark's team and if he's making ultimatums to Hendrick, he may as well break off now and get JR started up in Cup.

Mark has proven that given the same support he's at LEAST twice the driver/team JR is fielding. At 50, Mark has more talent and is in better physical condition than 95% of the Series' drivers and in winning 2 of last 4, has proven he can drive up front all year long.

If not for 2 blown engines - not to mention getting caught up in something at Talladega (none of it caused by him, of course), he'd be top 5, if not top 3, or even leading, at this point.

We'll see all you Anti Mark folks in the chase. Then again, if you're a JR fan, you may not have a reason to watch the Chase!

    Keep Killin' 'em Mark!!!
