Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing honored for helping victims of earthquake in Haiti
Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing have been recognized for their efforts earlier this year in aiding victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti that destroyed the country’s capitol of Port-au-Prince.
Earlier this week, the Missionary Aviation Fellowship presented the two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series organizations with the Aviation Ministry’s Service Award.
“With these awards, we at MAF want to express our sincere gratitude to Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing for their support of the MAF team in Haiti,” John Boyd, president of MAF, said in a news release. “We honor two fine motorsports teams for their selfless action, and for the special blessing they were to us during a very trying time.”
The two racing organizations provided aircraft and personnel to ferry supplies and relief workers into the devastated capitol. The planes were also used to evacuate adopted orphans to their American homes.
More than 170,000 people are believed to have perished as a result of the 7.0-magnitude quake.
