Chad Knaus, crew chief for the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Jimmie Johnson, has been named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race for Sunday's Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Johnson led 238 of 312 laps en route to his seventh win of the season.
Knaus called his driver in for the first time of the day on lap 74 for a wedge adjustment and four fresh tires. Johnson returned to the track in third and then regained the lead on lap 90.
Johnson headed for the pits once more on lap 117 during the race's first caution of the day.
"Once [Chad] called for the second set of tires, we were set," Johnson said.
"The team did a great job today," said Knaus. "Fantastic preparation on the car. I could not be more proud of the entire team's efforts all weekend."
Bob Osborne, crew chief for Roush Fenway’s Carl Edwards, Todd Berrier, crew chief for Richard Childress Racing's Kevin Harvick and Fox/Speed analyst Jeff Hammond, along with representatives from the sponsor, serve as the panel for the challenge.
In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage on his pit box the following week. The crew chief with the most weekly wins will be honored as the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $20,000 check at the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
