LAS VEGAS – Greg Biffle has acquired partial ownership of Sunset Speedway in Banks, Ore., and also has formed the DAA Spec Motor Series, a Late Model series.
Sunset Speedway is a one-third-mile clay oval that runs weekly from April through September. The Roush Fenway Racing driver, who is from the state of Washington, is co-owner of the track with partner Jerry Schram.
The Late Model series will have 22 events with a $25,000 point fund.
“I really felt like I wanted to get involved in grass-roots racing,” Biffle said Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “It’s important because that is where all our feeder guys come from – mechanics and drivers. … It was important to me to get back to where I grew up and support this series.”
Biffle, who has received advice from other short-track owners such as Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace, said the two tracks where he won championships (Portland Speedway and Tri-City Raceway) are closed now.
“I’ve been looking at this for a few years now, about becoming a partner,” Biffle said. “It’s more about bringing some recognition to these race tracks and kind of giving back to that series and providing a good platform for guys to come out and race on Friday and Saturday night. … I really want to try to promote that racing in the Northwest.”
