Gordon says Busch-Earnhardt Jr. wreck a result of 'hard racing'

Concord, N.C.Jeff Gordon stopped short of blaming Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch on Monday for the collision that sent Dale Earnhardt Jr. spinning late in Saturday night’s Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway.

But Gordon did indicate he believes Busch may have driven too hard to the inside of Turn 3, where he slid up into Earnhardt Jr., Gordon’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, sending the No. 88 car out of control.

“The guy on the inside has to be a little more bold and aggressive,” Gordon said during a break from testing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, site of this month’s Sprint All-Star Challenge and Coca-Cola 600. “At the same time, you know that going into Turn 3 you can’t get in deep in Turn 3 if a guy’s on the outside of you. It takes the air away; the car gets real loose.

“So it looked to me like Kyle just kind of drove in there a little bit too hard, too close up to Junior, and it just took the air off of him and got
him loose, and obviously we saw what happened.”

Gordon disagreed with those who thought that such an accident was inevitable between Busch and Earnhardt Jr., two drivers who have tangled more than once on the track in the last year.

“I wouldn’t say it was inevitable, but I would say it was hard racing,” Gordon said. “That was what it looked to me like."

I just bet if it woould have been 24 on the outside instead of the 88 the story would have been " I gave him all the room in the turn and he still wrecked me - pay backs will be hell -- Ron
