Could this weekend’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 be the place where Hendrick Motorsports' Jeff Gordon finally breaks through with his first victory of 2008?

Gordon has been on a roll of late, with four top-five and six top-10 finishes in his last eight races. And this weekend’s race is at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where Gordon finished second in both races a year ago.

“We’ve put some top-fives together – some of them were earned with a good car and some were earned with strategy of some sort,” Gordon said. “The DuPont crew has been amazing in the pits, and my crew chief, Steve Letarte, has done a great job calling the races.

“We just need to work on getting the car to do what I need it to do to go faster.”

Gordon had plenty of speed at the 1.058-mile NHMS last year, even though he would’ve liked to have had one more position in each race. This weekend, he’ll get one more lap to try to get that one position as the race is 301 miles instead of 300.

“We had two good runs here last year,” said Gordon, who lost to Denny Hamlin by 0.068 seconds in the first race last year. “That extra lap sure would have been nice then.

“I don’t think it would have made any difference in the second race. Clint Bowyer had us covered in that one.

“This has been a good track for us in the past, so that gives us some confidence heading into this weekend. But we can’t rely on the past. We have to go out there and make it happen on Sunday.”

And the team has to continue to make it happen if Gordon wants to contend for his fifth championship. Gordon is sixth in the Sprint Cup standings with 10 races for the start of the 12-driver Chase For The Sprint Cup.”

“A lot can happen in 10 races, so we need to focus on making the Chase,” Gordon said.  “We tested this week hoping to find that little bit of extra speed, and hopefully what we learned will translate into us being more competitive in the races.

“If we secure that Chase spot, then it’s a whole new game.”

We've been with Jeff since '93. We always include him in our Fantasy Cup team no matter what happened the previous week. It's great to see Ingrid & Ella with you at the races. When you celebrate Ella's 1st birthday give her a hug from us... a "grandpa & grandma" who are a couple of die hard Jeff Gordon fans!

I have been a Jeff Gordon fan for years. Hang in there, Jeff, you will get that win plus many others as soon as they can give you a good car. As far as I am concerned you are the BEST Nascar Driver there is. You will make the chase and I will be there in Homestead to watch you get the trophy. Happy Birthday to Ella. Love seeing her at the races.

My biggest fear for Sunday's race: "Loose in, tight in the middle, loose off with no forward bite." Seems like Jeff has said that during just about every race this year.
