DOVER, Del. – Hendrick Motorsports’ Jeff Gordon led the opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice at Dover International Speedway.
Gordon posted a lap of 154.407 mph. Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards was second fastest with a lap of 153.899 mph. Roush Fenway’s Greg Biffle, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch and Hendrick’s Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top five.
Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ Elliott Sadler, Red Bull Racing’s Brian Vickers, Penske Racing’s Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman and Roush Fenway’s Jamie McMurray followed.
The drivers are practicing in preparation for Sunday’s Best Buy 400 at the track. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. EDT today, with the race slated for 2 p.m. Sunday.
