Goodyear officials held a NASCAR Sprint Cup test at Kansas Speedway Tuesday and confirmed the company's tire recommendation for the Sept. 28 Camping World RV 400.
Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Martin Truex Jr. and Hall of Fame Racing's Brad Coleman participated in the session.
"We were able to confirm the intended race recommendation as an appropriate tire setup for the upcoming race at Kansas next month," said Rick Campbell, Goodyear's NASCAR project manager. "We were very pleased with the results of the test, as both drivers were able to complete long runs on the specified tire combination with positive feedback on grip and performance.
"The right-side tire has already seen action at both Fontana [Auto Club Speedway] with the Cup and Nationwide cars and Kansas with the Craftsman Trucks earlier this year, while the left-side is a new code incorporating an updated construction that has a strong track record at the intermediate tracks this year."
This same right-side tire is being run at Auto Club Speedway this weekend.
Goodyear will continue to test tires this month, with sessions already confirmed at Dover (Sept. 3), Atlanta (Sept. 16) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (Oct. 14). In addition, two large-scale tests have been planned at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where tire failures hampered this summer's race, Sept. 22-23 and Oct. 6-8.
- Mentioned Drivers:
- Martin Truex Jr.
