Golden Corral to sponsor Yates Racing's Travis Kvapil in next three Cup races

Yates Racing officials announced Friday that the Golden Corral restaurant chain will sponsor Travis Kvapil’s No. 28 Sprint Cup Series Ford for the next three races, beginning this weekend at Las Vegas.

The restaurant chain, which backed Kvapil in the Daytona 500, also will sponsor the No. 28 entry March 8 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and March 22 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“Golden Corral was thrilled to sponsor Travis in the Daytona 500, and our customers, employees and veterans across the country told us they were pulling for him, too,” said Chris Kuehn, chief marketing officer of Golden Corral. “We decided to extend our sponsorship because the response reinforced that this is a perfect fit for our brand, and the start of the season is a great time of year to be involved in NASCAR.”

The company will also continue its promotion called  “Race for America’s Families,” where each time Kvapil posts a top 10-finish, Golden Corral will offer children a free buffet – limit two per family, and one kids buffet for children under 12 with each purchase of an adult buffet – as well as make a $5,000 donation to the Disabled American Veterans.

“Our team is working extremely hard to finish top-10 not only for our own team goals, but because our fans have been there every step of the way,” Kvapil said. “We are so thankful that Golden Corral has continued to put their faith into our team, and we’ll do our best to make the kids and fans proud.”

Financial terms of the sponsorship were not announced.

Any time a team can get a sponsor for a race or 2, or however many, is great news, especially in this year's economy.

I as also happy that Travis got a sponsor for a few races he is such a nice guy and a good driver. I really felt bad for him when i saw the look on his face friday when he didn't make the race for this weekend. Instead Mad Max got in just under the wire. I like Max and he is always very happy when he makes the race but i still feel sorry for Travis.

Race for America's Families eh? How about making the race first, then worrying about a Top-10? Maybe Golden Corral should change their promotion to each time Travis makes a race instead of Top-10?

I agree with #3; YR is going thro' tough times mostly because of their own demise. When Dale Jarrett won the championship in 1999, the organization basked in the glory while the other organizations caught up to speed and passed Yates by, leaving them wondering what happened. Now, 10 years later, they are still trying to catch up. Too bad. Perhaps they should forget the racing aspect of Nascar and simply concentrate on building engines.
