Elliott Sadler and his Gillett Evernham Motorsports team have a little extra incentive to win the Aug. 17 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Primary sponsor Stanley Tools will make a $1 million donation to the Children’s Miracle Network if Sadler wins the 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
“This race may be one of the most significant of Elliott’s career because of the impact it will have on his youngest and most important fans,” said Rebecca Durham, mtorsports & sponsorships manager of Stanley Tools. “He knows the lifelong effect of winning this race.”
The incentive is part of the “Racing for a Miracle” program created by Stanley Tools, the Ace Hardware Foundation and Children’s Miracle Network to benefit sick and injured kids as well as the hospitals that provide their care.
Sadler is encouraging Ace Hardware patrons to go to one of the country's 3,800 company stores during the month of August to buy a $1 “Racing for a Miracle” icon. All donations go to a local Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
As part of program, Sadler plans to visit Sparrow Hospital, the Children’s Miracle Network area hospital in Lansing, Mich. on Aug. 14, where he plans to race remote control cars with young patients, sign autographs, tour the hospital and present a child with an award for winning a helmet design contest.
“Making a difference in the lives of sick kids shouldn’t be a spectator sport,” Sadler said. “’Racing for a Miracle’ allows everyone to get
involved, whether it’s a dollar at Ace Hardware or Stanley Tools’ million-dollar donation when I win the race in Michigan."
