Chip Ganassi (left) said the decision to part ways with Reed Sorenson was a business matter.

Team owner Chip Ganassi says the departure of Reed Sorenson from his No. 41 Sprint Cup entry was simply a “business decision” made by both sides.

Ganassi issued a statement after Gillett Evernham Motorsports officials announced the signing of Sorenson to their Cup team for next season. Sorenson had driven for Chip Ganassi Racing since his debut in NASCAR in what was then known as the Busch Series in 2004.

“After much internal discussion over the last few months, we agreed that parting ways with Reed was the right decision for all of us,” Ganassi said. “The business side of sports is never easy, and this was just a business decision that was made on both our parts. We wish Reed nothing but the best.”

If this was a business decision I fully back Ganassi racing.....Sorenson really did not live up to the hipe.   He wasn't agressive enough (like Motoya).  He only had lead once in his career for only FIVE laps.  He never finished 1, 2 or 3 in almost 100 races.  Chip you need to find a more agressive racer who will be proud to have the TARGET on his back!!See you at the Races.Bill Smith

Whatever, Chip Gnassi's equipment is the issue here. Good going Reed. Now maybe you'll have better equipment. If Gnassi's orginazation was so good then why is he down to one driver and that driver only has partial sponsorship for next year? If Gnassi spent as much on his NASCAR stuff as he does on his IRL stuff his NASCAR program would be better.

Montoya isn't winning either and he is aggressive. He also is sensitive to the people around him. He was pretty upset when David Stremme and Jimmy Elledge left. He couldn't be too happy. Right, Business is business and Ganassi is not doing well in the business. Go Reed! How many races has Ganassi won in Cup?
