JOLIET, Ill. – While Carl Edwards can't predict whether Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Chicagoland Speedway will be as exciting as last year's back-and-forth battle between eventual race winner Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson, the Roush Fenway Racing driver expects it will be fun.
“You never know, but this place does give some great racing," said Edwards, who is currently fifth in the series standings. "It’s a lot like an Atlanta or Texas. It has got multiple grooves."
Although Edwards finished a disappointing 32nd after starting fourth in last year's race at the 1.5-mile facility, the driver of the No. 99 Ford does have one top-five and a top-10 finish in four Cup starts here.
"This place is fun. It has got some character. It has got some bumps and different grooves, and I really enjoyed the race last year," Edwards said. "We made it all the way to the lead and had a little bit of mechanical trouble, but it should be good, and it’s good for the fans, too. I like these night races.”
There is, however, one aspect to racing at night at Chicagoland or any other track that Edwards doesn't enjoy.
"The only bad thing about the night race is just waiting all day for it to start," he said. "Other than that, they’re great.”
