Mar 27, 2009 at 5:06 PMNo Werner, the way the ratings are determined have not changed,NASCAR has changed and not for the good. You are correct. You would think as track attendance goes down, the tv ratings would go up. But,that is not happening. We fans are trying to tell NASCAR we do not like what they are doing, ie, the chase, the COT,the top 35 in points being given starting spots and the lucky dog among alot of other things. As long as Brian France and NASCAR keeps ignoring the fans and keeps this arogant attitude, I think that track attendance and tv ratings will keep going down with every race.

Mar 27, 2009 at 6:04 PMdon't like the Chase...top 35 in points stinks, so does the lucky dog, but that does give us a race within a race...ok i can live with that...the COT, car of today...beats those darn wedge cars with the offset bodies...i can adapt to them...just need to get a REAL front and rear end on them...

Mar 27, 2009 at 6:23 PMA couple of people have wondered why TV ratings aren't larger if attendance is lower. The explanation is that the 20-50,000 fewer people missing from the track probably are watching on TV, but this is such a tiny percentage of the national TV audience (in the millions) that it's not apparent. The people not attending races is probably due to the economy for the most part, the dropping TV audience is purely lack of interest.

Mar 27, 2009 at 6:47 PMWerner, You have it Right. The networks are selling themselves ala DW the Loudmouth and Hammond the Hollywood 'Guy' and McRenolds the 'Me-Too'. Try this, turn off the Audio on the TV which I do at the start of the race because I can't stand to hear one more "Pull them belts tight one more time boys and that awfull 'Boggity-Boggity' and keep the audio off while you tune-in MRN Radio. The radio group is more concerned with bringing you the track action vs what DW did when he won there umpteen times. I have never heard of any other driver, past or present, flap his gums so much and say so little as DW.

Mar 27, 2009 at 8:23 PMIt is sad. I have been to NSC races at Bristol 11 times in the past, but I would not drive there from Louisville KY to see a race now even if the tickets were free.

Mar 28, 2009 at 1:08 PMI hate to say it, but EVERY race puts me to sleep nowadays. TV airs TOO MANY commercials, the same comments week in week out, are getting old, now they bring in cartoons to spicen up the race. Let's face it, racing has changed and not for the better. I don't think this is what Big Bill had in mind for NASCAR. I wished I did have the answer, but I don't know either.

Mar 29, 2009 at 10:27 AMHere! Here! too many of you posting comments on this article. As Sam and Fredd so accurately stated, Brian France and Nascar better wake up to the fans disgust with all this pre-race hoopla and endless commercials. I realize the networks must bring in advertising dollars, but it has gotten out-of-hand. If we don't get to see more racing, tv viewership will continue to fall and "Digger" cartoons will not help bring it back!!!
