Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler has been named grand marshal for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 race weekend at Infineon Raceway.

Stabler, who guided the Raiders to their first Super Bowl victory in 1977, will be honored at the Children’s Champions Grand Marshal’s Banquet on June 19 in Sonoma, Calif. The gala is a fundraiser for the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. He will also take part in prerace activities on race day, June 21.

"It will be great fun to be back in Northern California with good friends and great fans," said Stabler, an avid NASCAR  fan who resides in Alabama.

In his 10 years with the Raiders, Stabler's honors included being the 1974 National Football League’s most valuable player, winning Super Bowl XI, earning berths in the Pro Bowl four times (1973, 1974, 1976, 1977), being named a member of the NFL 1970s all-decade team and being named the 1976 Bert Bell Award for NFL Player of the Year.

Stabler also led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 1974 and 1976 and is the all-time leader for the Raiders in pass attempts, completion percentage, yardage and touchdowns. He holds the record for most victories by a Raiders quarterback (71).

Stabler, an All-American from the University of Alabama, was enshrined into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
