The fifth annual Sprint Sound and Speed, featuring country music artists and NASCAR competitors, will be Jan. 8 and 9.
The two-day event, held at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., kicks off with two shows on Jan. 8. Those feature Hank Williams Jr., Chris Young and NASCAR's Kyle Petty, who will perform with his band. There also will be appearances by Chase For The Sprint Cup drivers Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne.
On Saturday, the event continues at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium, where racing and country music fans have the opportunity to get autographs and participate in story-telling and question-and-answer sessions with drivers, team owners and performing artists. The fan event will feature show car and sponsor displays, as well as a charitable auction with memorabilia from the racing and entertainment industries.
Among the NASCAR drivers scheduled to appear are Dale Earnhardt Jr., Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Kahne, Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer, Reed Sorenson and David Stremme. Country music stars include Jason Michael Carroll, Josh Turner, members of Diamond Rio and Young.
More drivers and country music artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Since its inception, the event has attracted an estimated 40,000 fans and raised more than $800,000 for Victory Junction Gang Camp, a year-round camping experience founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty for children ages 6-16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Tickets for the Jan. 8 shows (from $32 to $54) and the festival on Jan. 9 ($20 for adults and $12 for children) are on sale and available through TicketMaster and at opry.com. Combination tickets, good for the Opry and the festival, will go on sale Wednesday and range from $55 to $69. Additional details are available at www.soundandspeed.org.
