It’s not often that race fans can share the same room with legends of the sport, but that will be the case Sunday when the fourth annual Legends Helping Legends of Racing gets under way at Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville, N.C.
This year’s event will be in honor of former NASCAR champion Rex White. Named one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers, White won the 1960 championship, beating Richard Petty by almost 4,000 points. He nearly repeated as champion the following year, eventually finishing second to Ned Jarrett.
In 233 career starts, White won 28 times. He finished with 110 top-fives and 163 top-10s. He also finished 10th or better in the point standings on six occasions.
A sampling of those scheduled to be on hand along with White are Bobby and Donnie Allison, Richard Brickhouse, Cecil Gordon, Buddy Arrington, Jimmy Hensley, Jarrett and Waddell Wilson. Fans can visit www.memorylaneautomuseum.com for a complete listing of attendees.
The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
Previous events hosted by the museum have recognized long-time Charlotte Motor Speedway announcer Bill Connell, two-time Nationwide Series champ Sam Ard and championship-winning crew chief Jake Elder.
