Edwards tops speed chart in final Cup practice

JOLIET, Ill.Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards backed up a strong run in opening practice to lead the final Sprint Cup practice session for Saturday night's LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Edwards had a speed of 174.070 mph Friday night to claim the top spot in the hour-long session. Edwards was second in an earlier practice Friday afternoon.

Following Edwards in the second session were Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) at 173.533, David Gilliland (Yates Racing) at 173.110, Matt Kenseth (Roush Fenway Racing) at 172.568 and Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing) at 172.480. Johnson led the first session Saturday.

Kyle Busch will start on the pole in Saturday night's race. The point leader, Busch took the first starting position when rain washed out qualifying. Busch was sixth in Friday's first practice session and 13th in the second.

Joe Nemechek (Furniture Row Racing), who brushed the wall in the first practice session Friday, did not participate in the second session.
