DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Talk about competitive. While Carl Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team may not be winning races like they were early in the season, they're certainly on top of their game. Edwards has 10 top-10 finishes in his last 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup starts, a run that has boosted him to fourth in the series standings.

It's also one that shows his team is on the rise.

Edwards says that the recent streak, and his position in the standings, helps the morale of he and his team heading into each race.

"It's huge to be able to come to the race track and know that you're fast," he said. "The guys have been working hard. I feel like this has been the strongest we've been in my Cup career, so I'm enjoying it.

"We've got some things we can work on, all of us; I can do a better job, the pit crew's been working really hard [and] they're getting better. Man, it's fun. It's just fun to come here and race and know that you can finish in the top 10 and have a chance to win every week."

Can that run continue this weekend at Daytona International Speedway? Edwards was fourth in the July race at the track last season - but that's his lone top-10 finish on the restrictor-plate track.

Regardless, he's still hoping for continued strong performances and to gain more ground in the standings. With nine races to go before the Chase For The NASCAR Sprint Cup field is set, drivers are starting to eye the 10 bonus points the sanctioning body awards a win once the Chase field is set.

Currently, Kyle Busch leads the series with five wins and Edwards is second with three.

Soon, he'd like to add to that tally.

"If we can make it through this race and maybe the next one, and still gain points on 13th [place in the standings], then we can go into all-out, win-at-all-costs until the Chase starts, and that will be fun," he said.
