There weren't that many bad calls on timing and pitstops.
Darlington Raceway officials announced Wednesday that the track has lowered ticket prices on nearly 9,000 seats for the Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in May.
All seats in rows three through 14 in the Colvin grandstand will be $35, a $10 discount off the original price.
“We are celebrating a historic milestone in 2009 with the 60th season of racing at Darlington Raceway, and we want to make sure that our fans can be here for this special event,” track President Chris Browning said in a news release. “We recognize that economic times are tough for everyone right now and want to do our part to help reduce the cost.”
Was anyone at fault for the mayhem at the finish of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway?

Jan 7, 2009 at 3:51 PMI think that is a GREAT Jester on Mr. Brownings part. If the other Tracks would lower their prices the same way, it would be good for the fans, since they are the main reason, Nascar, exists in the first place.

Jan 7, 2009 at 3:55 PMIts funny they are lowering seat prices on seats they couldnt sell because they are to low to see the other side of the track.

Jan 7, 2009 at 4:45 PMUhhhh..... Just a minute there Howard Englishman. I mean, other tracks have already made announcements that they will NOT BE LOWERING ticket prices despite the lackluster advanced-ticket sales, but you want to spew YOUR PESSIMISM at Darlington for at least making an effort????? Wow. I'm proud that it's Darlington making the first efforts. And assuming that Darlington will sell out again as it has the past several years, their $10 discount on 9,000 seats adds up to a NINETY-THOUSAND DOLLAR discount!!!!! That's $90,000 that will remain in the pockets of racefans despite your condescending attitude. I must be crazy, or maybe it's because I'm not a naysaying pessimist so I'm having trouble understanding, but how exactly is a $90,000 decision "funny" to you?

Jan 7, 2009 at 5:11 PMUm WORM DIRT, those 9000 seats are on the old backstretch and they stink to try to watch a race from, because they are to low to see across the track like Howard said. You dont see them lowering any other seats do you? Those seats are just like your name.

Jan 7, 2009 at 5:12 PM$75.00 for those rows at Fontana. Have last year's stubs to prove it. Thanks to Darlington for making an effort.

Jan 7, 2009 at 8:50 PMDarlington put the hardest selling tickets on sale. #6 you are so right the worst view seats at Darlington. Worm Dirt wouldn't know a good seat from a bad seat since his only seat is in front of a TV. No discount for the other 55,000 fans.

Jan 7, 2009 at 10:10 PMI hope the lower prices don't attract a few people who are new to the sport, and because of the bad seats never attend another NASCAR event again. I even considered going to the race having never made the trip to Darlington, but now.

Jan 8, 2009 at 3:49 AMThis is so BIZARRE to me!!! I don't understand some of you. It's almost like some bad science-fiction movie where it's been raining and grey and gloomy and overcast FOR YEARS and THEN when the first tiny little glimmer of sunlight FINALLY starts to peek through the clouds.........a SWARM of naysaying pessimists come running out in their raincoats and start spitting and throwing rocks at it. WOW PEOPLE!!!!!!!! WOW...... DO you really expect them to start slashing prices on their best seats first????? Did the price of gas this summer drop immediately from $4.50/gal to $1.50/gal or did it creep it's way down???? I guess there must be TWO ways to look at this then.... You can whine and moan and point fingers.....OR you can realize that this is A GOOD SIGN OF THINGS TO COME!!!!!! Already Talladega has followed suit and slashed prices on even more seats, but I'm sure you NAYSAYERS will find something wrong with that too. Good luck with that.

Jan 8, 2009 at 7:24 AMWORM DIRT, ISC who is the France family own these 2 tracks and they are losin so much money that they are just tryin anything they can to make up for there loses that they started. They dont do anything to benefit the fans ever.Once they have the fans in there they will make up that $10 on there $8 beers, $6 hamburgers and $3 water.

Jan 8, 2009 at 8:51 AMTeresa you hit the nail on the head. Worm Dirt has no clue at all why the cheap seats were reduced. He is also not aware of what you can bring into Darlington as far as food or drink. In case you didn't know Worm, each ticket holder can carry a 6"X6"X12 cooler. Enough to hold two bottles of water and a sandwich. Worm Dirt, stay in your arm chair and snack on your m&m's. You really show how little knowledge you have.

Jan 8, 2009 at 1:10 PMTeresa, I think you're missing something fundamental here. When you go buy a cup of coffee, do you really think that the person who sold it to you is trying to "BENEFIT" you??? Did he make the sacrifices and take the RISK of opening his business so that he could provide coffee for the common good of his fellow man??? OR is he trying to make a PROFIT????? The beauty of this system, is that this man's selfish desire for a profit benefited YOU because you valued the coffee more than the money you gave him in exchange for it. IN FACT, when you go to work everyday, I ASSUME that you are not doing it out of the goodness of your heart, but because you expect A NEGOTIATED PAYMENT of some kind. Right? How is the France family any different from you or the coffee salesman Teresa??? Tracks can ONLY charge what racefans are willing to pay!!!! In the past, some of us were willing to pay TOO MUCH. Now, things have changed and prices WILL COME DOWN. I am well aware that the France family isn't lowering prices to help their fellow man, but does that mean I can't enjoy the LOWER PRICES?????? Sheesh....

Jan 8, 2009 at 1:15 PMWingnut, Not only will they let you bring in the cooler, but they will also let you bring in a clear plastic bag or one of those clear plastic backpacks they sell outside. Stuff eight or nine beers and some ice in the 6x6x12 cooler. Then, stick your sandwhiches and water and whatever is left over from the grill into the plastic bag. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! Your welcome.

Jan 8, 2009 at 3:02 PMAs a long time attendee at Darlington, and many other tracks, the cheap seats are just that. Poor visibility and uncomfortable and in some cases (Daytona & Talledega) not so cheap. 90% of the "lower priced seats" can not see much in front of them, much less the opposite straightaway or corners.

Jan 8, 2009 at 4:02 PMNow if they would only bring back the Southern 500 from California!

Jan 8, 2009 at 5:29 PMnice to see that they lowered the price on over-priced seats that they couldn't sell in the first place...NASCAR will figure out how to write this off as a loss...

Jan 8, 2009 at 6:31 PMJust makes good business sense to me.Any business will take items that are not moving and put them on sale. Maybe it will give a chance to those who cannot afford to pay higher prices to go to a race. Who knows? But thanks for the heads up, at least people will know what they are getting, if they read here.

Jan 9, 2009 at 11:27 AMWorm Dirt I'm with you some of us can't afford tickets at some of the tracks so we are stuck with the bad seats but that don't matter cause we can say we were there. And a race weekend is more than just the race its the sounds and the smells and the excitement of being there. The only ones that complain about the cooler issues are the ones that drink themselves stupid anyways and they also miss the real reason for the races.

Jan 9, 2009 at 4:14 PMWell, I have to agree with Worm and Karen..and who's Wingnut? :-) I have two chipmunks hanging around here; one is named Wingnut and the other is Lugnut. Lugnut doesn't have a tail. Thought I'd share!
