DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Dale Earnhardt Inc. showed its strength at Daytona International Speedway, with Paul Menard and Mark Martin taking the front row for Saturday night's Coke Zero 400.
Menard, driver of the DEI No. 15, earned his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup pole in his second full season of Cup competition. He led the field with a lap of 185.916 mph.
Martin, driving the organization's No. 8, will start second following his lap of 185.870. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start third in his Hendrick
Motorsports Chevrolet.
Joe Nemechek, generally a strong qualifier at Daytona, gave Furniture Row Racing a second-row start in qualifying fourth while Haas CNC Racing's Johnny Sauter, Roush Fenway Racing's David Ragan, No Fear Racing's Boris Said, DEI's Regan Smith, Joe Gibbs Racing's Kyle Busch and Gillett Evernham Motorsports' Patrick Carpentier rounded out the top 10.
A week after finishing third on pit strategy in the rain-shortened race at New Hampshire, J.J. Yeley and his Hall of Fame Racing team failed to make the field for the race. Haas CNC Racing's Scott Riggs also failed to make the show.
The race is slated for 8 p.m. EDT tomorrow.
