Cup qualifying rained out at Watkins Glen, Busch on pole
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying at Watkins Glen International has been canceled because of rain. The field for Sunday's Centurion Boats at tThe Glen will be set based on owner points, meaning Joe Gibbs Racing's Kyle Busch will start from the pole.
Busch, who has seven wins this season, won the season's previous road-course race, which was at Infineon Raceway. Hendrick Motorsports' Dale Earnhardt Jr. will also start on the front row. Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards, Hendrick Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson and Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton round out the top five.
Road-racing specialists Boris Said and Brian Simo are the two drivers who will miss the field. No Fear Racing’s Said and Front Row Motorsports’ Simo will miss the race because they are the only two cars that have not attempted every race this year. Forty-five cars are entered for the 43 starting spots.
NASCAR had already canceled the opening Cup practice. The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams are scheduled to practice from 2:45 to 5 p.m. EDT because that series has access to rain tires.
