Crew chief Cully Barraclough will not return to the No. 38 Yates Racing team for the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Driver David Gilliland confirmed in a phone interview with SceneDaily.com that he and Barraclough will not be racing together next season. Gilliland also said he has not been told who his 2009 crew chief will be and that the team is still seeking a primary sponsor.

Barraclough has left Yates Racing to join Roush Fenway Racing.

"We're still really looking for sponsorship," Gilliland said. "Everybody is looking for a sponsor and the economy right now is not in NASCAR's favor."

Gilliland said he was disappointed that Barraclough will not be back.

“We had a good relationship and it was his first year as a Cup crew chief,” Gilliland said. “I thought we were growing in the right direction together, but I guess sometimes change can be a good thing. We’re still great friends and I wish him nothing but the best.”

More then likely doesnt want to be involved with a driver that seriously needs anger management.

Ryden, too bad you can't get some common sense management. David is the nicest guy on the track, but Juan Pablo pushed David over the limits. What David did was wrong, but he does not need anger management. And it is interesting that JPM, for the first time, kept completely away from David at Homestead, so the message was received by JPM.

But back to the subject, I like Cully, and indeed David and Cully worked well together. I am very glad to hear that Cully is still employed. I am also hoping that sponsorship comes through for David and for Travis! Go Yates!

I also hope that Yates finds sponsorship for David and Travis. Wishing you all Happy Holidays.

David is a great driver and was man enough to put JPM in his place. Any driver who wants to play bumper tag should be ready to get a does of the same. Cully & David were a great team, I hate for Yates to loose him but I am glad he is still with a Ford team. Sponsors wake up, Team Yates is the best bang for you buck$$$

Too bad about Cully, but at least he still has job. As for David and Ryden's comment...I think David handled his anger very well for 34 races. NEVER spoke out against anyone even though many other drivers deserved it. He was being too nice all season and it only got him trampled on and labeled as a pushover. Not anymore huh?

its about time david stoped being mr nice guy. e-bay is filled with scrap metal from davids car after being taken out by not only JPM but several others including his own so called team mate matt kensith. guess he has special past champion pass. he was only docked two laps for rough driving after he knew it wouldnt hurt his running posision but take david out of a top ten finish. david--time to stop taking prizoners and put them to rest
