Contract issues stall 2010 racing plans for Brad Keselowski
BROOKLYN, Mich. – JR Motorsports driver Brad Keselowski said Friday his desire to run full time in both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series in 2010 is holding up his contract negotiations.
Keselowski, who also drives part time for Hendrick Motorsports in Cup, badly wants to run in both series next year.
“I certainly plan on running the Nationwide Series full time next year,” Keselowski said at Michigan International Speedway, where he’ll try to qualify Hendrick’s No. 25 Cup car for Sunday’s Carfax 400. “There’s no doubt about that. … I think I’ll be able to put that together. At this moment, I have not. I have a lot of good options on my plate.”
And some of those options, it seems, involves running both series.
“That’s why this process is taking so long,” Keselowski said. “I’m asking a lot of the teams that I want to do something with. It takes time to put that all together.”
JRM co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Thursday that if Keselowski wants to remain with his team, he’ll likely have to drive a Hendrick Chevrolet in Cup. JRM is co-owned by Rick Hendrick, whose Cup teams field Chevrolets.
“Certainly, if I’m going to run the JR Motorsports cars next year, I have to stay with a Chevrolet Cup car,” Keselowski said. “That’s all part of the package. As far as what team is compatible and what team is not compatible, I’m not a really good judge of that. I don’t know exactly how Dale feels about that.”
Keselowski said his decision could be made soon.
“It’s coming,” Keselowski said. “I feel when I make a move, it’s going to happen all at once, and it’s going to happen pretty soon.”
