Confessions of a NASCAR fan: My NASCAR thankful Thanksgiving list

COMMENTARY

I am thankful for so many things. Not the least of which are my family and its health, this country and my faith. But, as a NASCAR fan, I have a few more things to add to my list.

I am thankful for the double-file restart. For all the complaining we fans do, it was a nice change of pace to actually applaud a decision made by NASCAR.

I am thankful for Kyle Busch. His personality, as colorful as the M&M’s on his car’s hood, gives fans a reason to boo or cheer.

I am thankful for Digger, Fox’s gopher-cam mascot. Just when I thought I was a sucker for all things NASCAR, the cartoon character came along and I realized even I have limits.

I am thankful for the Aaron’s Dream Girl Dancers. Whenever they were on stage, the lines at the souvenir haulers became much shorter.

I am thankful for any and all track concessions which require many napkins. Generally, the amount of napkins used for grandstand food is in direct proportion to the amount of plaque buildup on our artery walls. Yummy, good grease.

I am thankful for clean port-a-potties and grandstand toilets that flush. No further explanation is needed.

I am thankful my Dale Jarrett license plate frame is still somewhat legible. I think I have one more season before it will be completely faded.

I am thankful to the guy at the Atlanta night race who whistled when I walked by. Sure, he might have had “one too many” but I’m a middle-aged housewife. I’ll take it.

I am thankful I don’t have to pronounce the name of Matt Kenseth’s crew chief in a speech or any other public manner. The odds of me butchering “Blickensderfer” are about as good as seeing the big one occur at a superspeedway. Sorry, Drew.

I am thankful for Stewart-Haas Racing for providing hope that new teams actually can be competitive.

I am thankful to our readers at NASCAR Scene and SceneDaily.com who continue to read and help me enjoy the coolest job ever.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving! Gobble! Gobble!

I am thankful for the privilege of watching the magic of Jimmie Johnson and the 48 team.

I am thankful we can have hope. Hope that the Fords will be on top again next year; in both Cup and Nationwide. And I hope Carl will be able to do his backflips again.

I am thankful for a NASCAR season that mercifully ended after 100 races. I am thankful that Cousin Carl survived the Spring Talledega race without injuries. (Sadly, Full Contact Frisbee proved to be his downfall.) I am thankful that I was able to attend the Turkey Night Grand Prix USAC championship races at Toyota Speedway @ Irwindale (CA) last night. (Eat your heart out, East Coast...real racing, at night; beer rolled back to 2007 prices of $6.00.) Above all, I am thankful for Carolyn's insightful commentary.

I am thankful for life, family,God,NASCAR.
There is no other sport that I love more than NASCAR.I was able to see history made with J.J. wining his fourth cup, Tony building a competive racing team the first year.I still miss the man that drove #3.I hope that Jeff Gordon will win another championship,Mark Martin will finally win what he has wanted for so long.We should be proud of a sport that our children can model themselves after.
We know that noting is perfect, but NASCAR trys hard to be fair.
