DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer and Michael Waltrip Racing’s David Reutimann went to backup cars after an accident in the first practice session Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway.

Bowyer blew a tire and clipped Reutimann, who was then hit from behind by Derrike Cope.

Bowyer and Reutimann will have to go to the rear of the field in their Gatorade Duel races Thursday that set the lineup for the Daytona 500. As long as they don’t change cars after the qualifying races, they can start the Daytona 500 where they qualify Thursday.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth led the practice session with a speed of 194.254 mph. He was followed by Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch, Red Bull Racing’s Brian Vickers, RCR’s Jeff Burton and Roush Fenway’s Carl Edwards.

Final practice for the Thursday races is from 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. EST today
