CONCORD, N.C.Elliott Sadler thinks the recent May 5 and 6 test at Lowe’s Motor Speedway helped him win the pole Friday night for the Sprint Showdown.

The Gillett Evernham Motorsports driver hopes sitting on the pole leads to his finishing in the top two spots Saturday night and qualifies him for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

“We’re definitely making progress,” Sadler said. “We’re trying some things new for this weekend, chassis-wise. We’re going to race it tomorrow night, see how it goes. And it will give us a good idea of where we need to be when we come back [next week] for the 600.

“But the Charlotte test was probably the most important test I ever had in my career because we have struggled so much at the mile-and-a-half and the big tracks at Gillett Evernham Motorsports – Texas and Atlanta and California was very sub-par for our organization. So to come here to Charlotte and have a two-day test, I an very thankful.”

The fruits of that test proved dividends Friday for snagging the pole. Sadler qualified 27th at California, 18th at Atlanta and 26th at Texas.

“This is a big milestone for us, guys, as a team,” Sadler said. “Kudos to my team and the hard work they put in. … We had two or three pieces of the puzzle that we knew were better and here at the Charlotte test, it seemed like we put it all together.”
