Carl Edwards leads final Sprint Cup practice at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – Carl Edwards, who is still looking for his first Sprint Cup win this year, led the final Cup practice Friday at Richmond International Raceway.

Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) turned a lap of 125.290 mph in preparation for Saturday night’s Air Guard 400. Paul Menard (Richard Petty Motorsports) was second at 124.752.

Rounding out the top 10 were Greg Biffle (Roush), Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing), Kasey Kahne (RPM), Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing), Kurt Busch (Penske Racing), points leader Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing), David Reutimann (Michael Waltrip Racing) and AJ Allmendinger (RPM).

Clint Bowyer (RCR), who led the first practice session, was 12th fastest. Bowyer holds a 117-point lead over Ryan Newman for the 12th and final spot in the Chase. Newman was 14th fastest in the final practice session.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was 27th fastest after finishing 38th in the first session.

Qualifying for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. race is scheduled for 5:40 ET today.
