Doug Richert, crew chief for Regan Smith, has left Dale Earnhardt Inc. and will be replaced on the No. 01 team by Kevin Buskirk this weekend, a team spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
Richert joined DEI this season after leaving Red Bull Racing in 2007. Smith is 33rd in the Sprint Cup points standings, lowest among the four DEI drivers.
Buskirk, who has been leading DEI’s testing program, will be the crew chief in this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, and a full-time replacement will be named later.
