JOLIET, Ill. - Matt Kenseth, who became a father for the second time on Monday, says that wife, Katie, and new daughter, Kaylin, are doing well and that aside from being a little tired, it’s business as usual for him this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.

“It’s good. It’s only been three days [since the birth], but it’s good,” Kenseth said Thursday at the 1.5-mile track where he’ll compete in Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup LifeLock.com 400. “You get very little sleep the first couple of days, but it’s been really good. Everything went really smooth, actually. Everything seemed to go really smooth.

“Katie is doing really good. She had a really good pregnancy and delivery, so everything was good.”

Kenseth was understandably thankful for the timing of the birth, which won’t interfere with his duties as driver of the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford at Chicagoland.

“I told [Katie] I would make it worth her while if she did that on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, so now I just have to make good on my promise,” the 2003 Cup champion said.

With the recent addition addition to his family, next weekend’s off weekend for the Sprint Cup Series was ideal for Kenseth.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” he said. “For me personally, it couldn’t have worked out at a better time, having the baby this week.

“And for the crew guys it’s nice to have it broken up a little bit and have a week off to get rested up and if there’s anything we want to work on, get it worked on and get ready for the stretch.”
