Busch leads first Darlington Cup practice

DARLINGTON, S.C.Kyle Busch led the first Sprint Cup practice on the repaved Darlington Raceway on Friday, easily topping the 12-year-old track record with a lap of 175.522 mph.
 
Busch edged Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin, who went 174.885 mph around the 1.366-mile track. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick Motorsports) was third at 174.780.
 
Travis Kvapil (Yates Racing) was fourth, followed by Tony Stewart (JGR). Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing) was sixth, with Joe Nemechek (Furniture Row Racing) seventh, Dave Blaney (Bill Davis Racing) eighth, Casey Mears (Hendrick) ninth and AJ Allmendinger (Red Bull Racing) 10th.
 
Ward Burton holds the Cup track record of 173.797 mph, set in 1996.
 
The Sprint Cup Series has another hour-long practice Thursday, at 7 p.m. EDT.
