LONG POND, Pa. – Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton enjoyed a good race Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
Burton and his team steadily worked on their car, gradually improving over the course of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Pocono 500. By the end of the race, the consistent driver was racing among the frontrunners and contending for a top-five finish.
After his fifth-place finish, Burton remained second in the standings and moved to just 21 points behind leader Kyle Busch of Joe Gibbs Racing. In addition, he seemed pleased with what his team had learned over the course of 500-mile race at the 2.5-mile race.
"At the start of the race, we weren't real good; we struggled a little bit," Burton said. "We made some changes about half way. Seemed like we kept losing our track position, but we got our car really good. There were times when we were the fastest car on the track, and that is a good sign. We came here and experimented with some stuff and think we can move forward with it."
