Bryan Clauson plans to attempt to make Sprint Cup race at Atlanta

CONCORD, N.C.Chip Ganassi Racing’s Bryan Clauson said he will attempt to make his NASCAR Sprint Cup debut in the upcoming race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a Ganassi Dodge.

Clauson, a part-time Nationwide Series driver this year, didn’t get a chance to qualify at Lowe’s Motor Speedway last weekend because of rain, but the team will try again at Atlanta in the Pep Boys Auto 500 on Oct. 26.

“We hope it doesn’t rain,” Clauson said. “It was frustrating, as good a test as we had out here. The guys went back and worked really hard on that car, and the motor shop did an awesome job, giving us a motor to come back with. We felt like we wouldn’t have any problem getting in the show. To not get to go out there and turn a lap, let alone make an attempt, was really frustrating.”

Should Clauson make the Atlanta Cup race, Kevin Hamlin will drive the team's No. 40 Nationwide Dodge at Memphis Motorsports Park that weekend.

Brian seems like a really nice kid and I'm sure he has some talent as I know he's had success in USAC but I'd like to see him at least finish a couple of NNS races on the lead lap before he attempts a cup start.

Well after little thought i have come up with a great idea. No driver should be able to come to cup until they have either won a nationwide championship or raced in nationwide full time for 2 yr. I am getting so tired of having these young guys coming into cup with really no experience maybe won some arca or usac races and that's it. There are to many good vetern drivers looking for a ride for next year and they all seem to be taken by these young guys with no experience. When will nascar step in and make some of these changes. Never would probably be a good answer.

YOU HAVE TO REALIZE THAT RACING AT THIS LEVEL IS A BUISNESS & THE WAY BUISNESSES RUN IS THE WAY THE OWNER OR OWNERS THINK THAT THE BUISNESS WILL DO BEST. THEY ARE NOT ABOUT DOING FAVORS FOR DRIVES THAT HAVE EXPERIANCE, BUT WHO ARE NOT THE DRIVERS THAT THEY THINK WILL BE THE BEST PICK FOR THEIR BUISNESS. BRYAN CLAUSON IS AN EXCEPTIONAL DRIVER.

Well who are we to say who can and cannot drive in the Sprint Cup series? All these people crying and whining about Joey Logano, Scott Speed, and Bryan Clauson should really take a step back and think about it before they open their mouths. Obviously, if an owner is willing to invest his or her own money into entering a driver in a race then they are "good enough". Hell, if someone can qualify for a race they're "good enough". I also think it's funny how nodoby is saying that Brad Keselowski "isn't ready" or "doesn't have enough experience"...oh but wait, he's Jr.'s project so he gets the pass right?? :-/

Jozef I wasn't saying he cant drive in a Cup race.I was pointing out that he's shown very little in Nascars #2 series that would lead me to believe that he would even be remotely successful and would most likely be in the way.
Kesolowski has won two races and runs up front with cup drivers week in and week out,so he's not getting a pass from anyone,he's earned it.Jr. fired Huffman and Mc Farland because they couldn't get it done,so he doesn't take on "projects" he rewards performance.Thats why Kesolowski is getting his shot.
