FORT WORTH, TexasChip Ganassi once joked that someday a NASCAR driver might come from the Monster Truck ranks. Wednesday, Richard Childress Racing’s Clint Bowyer went in the other direction.

Bowyer heads into the race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway sitting 12th in the Sprint Cup Series standings and leading the Nationwide Series.

He left those stock cars behind on Wednesday, though, stepping into the Bounty Hunter Monster Truck at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Obviously, he loved the experience.

“It was awesome,” he said of driving the Chevrolet entry. “I’ve never been able to do that and it’s something you never forget. Got to drive
over some Fords, that’s always fun, and air it out. It was pretty cool. I aired it out pretty good. I surprised myself.”

Still, he managed to keep in mind the fact that he’ll be competing in a pair of stock car races this weekend – and quit while he was
ahead.

“I just got to where I was a little bit confident and I thought I’d better get out before I did something stupid,” he said.
