Road-course specialist Boris Said will drive the No. 83 Red Bull Racing Toyota in next month’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International, according to team officials.

“He’s better than the best available,” Jay Frye, team vice president and general manager, said in a news release. “He’s a phenomenal talent and an even better guy. He’s been close to winning one of these things in the past. We have a great history with him and we have high expectations with him in the car.”

Said has 40 career starts, with nine of those coming at Watkins Glen. His career-best third-place finish there in Cup came in 2005.

“I feel like we’ll have a great chance to win this race,” Said said. “It is going to be fun, no matter what. Red Bull participates in so many different forms of racing – this is an exciting opportunity for me and I jumped at the chance.”

Said is the fifth driver for the team this season. Brian Vickers, the team’s primary driver, was sidelined earlier this year with blood clots. Casey Mears, Mattias Ekstrom and Reed Sorenson have driven for the team on an interim basis. Sorenson will be in the car for this weekend’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as the Aug. 1 race at Pocono Raceway.
