Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip among Hall of Fame nominees

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
NASCAR has announced two of the 25 initial candidates for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip, who are tied at third all-time 84 Cup victories apiece, are among the 25 nominees, NASCAR announced Tuesday. The sanctioning body will announce all 25 nominees Thursday night.
A panel of 48 voters will select the five members of the inaugural class, which will be inducted in May 2010. One of the 48 votes will come from a collective fan vote done on NASCAR’s official Web site, NASCAR.com.

Jun 30, 2009 at 5:29 PMI agree with pepper for the first five but maybe Bill France should be #1 and then Richard Petty then a toss up between Pierson, Yarborough, Allison, and Waltrip...I don't think Earnhardt should be one of the first 5, (as some seem to think)..He was really good but others were better.

Jun 30, 2009 at 7:25 PMThe problem with NASCAR is that they are going to now have people that deserve to be in the hall of fame from day 1 potentially be left out for years. Instead of inducting only 5 members, they should induct about 60, one per year of NASCAR's birth. That way these lists of who should be in and who shouldn't won't be such tough choices.
Report as AbuseAs hard as it might be to believe, I don't think Richard Petty OR Dale Earnhardt should be in the HOF with the first class. They were late bloomers compared to people like Bill France (NASCAR's founder), Red Byron (1st champion) and Lee Petty (first Daytona 500 winner) and people like Fireball Roberts. Pick people from the early days of NASCAR- the ones responsible for it taking off- before you induct the people that only made it better or set other records.

Jun 30, 2009 at 8:51 PMBobby Allison has my vote a 100 times more than the LMB "Large Mouth Bass" If NASCAR and FOX will wake up they would see that LMB is half the ratings drop. Do you know anyone who likes the guy on TV? Go ask someone that is not your best friend what they think of him.
Report as AbuseOk he was a good driver but let him get off TV before he is even mentioned for the Hall of Fame. Next week they will be wanting to put Michael in the Hall of Fame for his glowing record of 5 or 6 career wins with God only knows how many races.
SHUT UP DW. Go home and take Digger with you so we can watch the first part of the year.

Jun 30, 2009 at 8:55 PMA true Hall of Fame must begin with the founding fathers of the sport. Bill France, Lee Petty plus many others that we have never heard of but paid their dues. I would think that the guy who sold Winston on the Idea of being the series sponsor should go in early. Without Winston coming on back in 1971 and Ken Squires getting it on TV in about 1975 where do you think we would be today?
