Dave Blaney beat several other NASCAR competitors in Wednesday night's M&M's NASCAR Night of Stars Modified race at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo.
The Bill Davis Racing Sprint Cup driver held off the trio of Brendan Gaughan, Terry Labonte, and Tony Stewart, who battled for the runnerup position. Gaughan, a regular in the Craftsman Truck Series, edged past Stewart for the spot. He was followed by Labonte.
NASCAR's Ken Schrader, Dennis Setzer, Justin Labonte and Ron Hornaday also participated in the event.
“I love coming out here,” said Blaney, the 1997 World of Outlaws champion, according to a news release. “I’ll do whatever for Kenny. He’s got a great race track here and great fans. Even when I came here and raced with the (World of Outlaws series) in the ‘80s and ‘90s, it was a great place to come. I really enjoyed it and want to thank everyone for coming out; I hope they had fun.”
Schrader started form the pole position in the race that featured field inversions.
“It’s always fun to come out here,” Stewart said. “This is one of the best short tracks in the country. It’s so fun to come here. This is something we don’t get to do enough of, that’s for sure. Glad we got to come tonight.
“Blaney got ahead of all of us, but we had a heckuva battle for second. We had a lot of fun tonight.”
