BRISTOL. Tenn.Greg Biffle is quietly putting together a terrific season. He was fourth in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, his third consecutive top-five finish.

Biffle is one of three drivers – Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are the others – with three top-five finishes through the first five races of 2008. Biffle’s finish at Bristol moved him within 30 points of Busch, the Sprint Cup Series points leader.

But like most good drivers, Biffle wanted more at Bristol. Biffle and crew chief Greg Erwin decided to change only right-side tires on the No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford on the final pit stop, giving Biffle track position.

Biffle, though, said the final caution cost him a chance to gain a couple more positions.

“[The two-tire stop] helped us a tremendous amount,” Biffle said. “We knew track position is everything at Bristol. If those cautions wouldn’t have come out at the end, we certainly would have been a couple of spots better, but it was a great day for the Jackson Hewitt Ford Fusion.

“We just used our head. We were real smart on pit road and had great pit stops today. We just hung in there, but I kind of waited too long, I think, to put the pressure on.”
