AVONDALE, Ariz. – Hotel chain Best Western has increased its financial commitment to Michael Waltrip Racing but won’t remain as the official hotel of NASCAR, Best Western Senior Vice President Dorothy Dowling said today.
Best Western, which has been a Nationwide sponsor for the team in the past, will be a primary sponsor for one Sprint Cup race with MWR driver David Reutimann in 2010.
“We have stepped up our commitment with Michael Waltrip Racing because we do value the team sponsorship,” Dowling said. “But at the conclusion of this year, we will be stepping down as the official hotel partner of NASCAR. We valued that relationship, but we harnessed the true business value for that. This year, we’re really going to be investing in the team.”
Financial details were not disclosed.
“2010 will mark the seventh year that we’ve raced together,” team co-owner Michael Waltrip said. “What an honor it is to have that type of longevity.”

Nov 14, 2009 at 8:09 PM1 race? Is it really that expensive to sponsor MWR in Cup compared to like 10 NW races and be a NASCAR sponsor?

Nov 17, 2009 at 10:11 AMOfficial Nascar is old news. Many teams would have sponsors if Nascar would not have taken them away.
