ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Dickeis 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway earned a 3.1 overnight rating from Nielsen Media Research, Street and Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.

The figure is 8.8 percent lower than the 3.4 ABC earned overnight for the 2008 Texas race, which was run on the first Sunday of November last year.

if you would have told the fans jj would wreck at the begining the ratings would have been through the roof knowing tv would spend the whole race on how he repaired the car

Trying to go head to head with football is not going to work. If you could get a betting line on NASCAR races out of Vegas it might help some.

The ratings will continue to fall. Who wants to watch the same story over and over again, week after week. Once is enought.

Overall I think this Texas race was one of the better ones of the season. However, I think some of the problem with the racing and therefore the ratings is that unless the leader spins their tires on a re-start, like Kyle did once last Sunday, it's almost impossible to pass the lead car under green flag conditions. I like how Nascar kept the race green and let the chips fall where they may, and it didn't turn into a crappy 30 lap crash fest which is the new normal way Nascar races end.

TV ratings were't all that was off...did anyone see the empty seats? It looked like a practice session, not a Sprint cup race. And I only glaced at it during commercials of the football game. Was there anyone there at the end of the race?
    Once again GREAT job NASCAR!!!!!!!

it's not the COT that drops ratings...it's all the expectations, the hype....and then it just ends up being a normal race...same way they've always raced...how about we go back to 100 lappers?...400-500 milers are going to have a cookie break....
