ABC’s overnight ratings for Talladega Cup race fall 5 percent
By SceneDaily Staff
Monday, November 02, 2009
ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Amp Energy 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway earned a 3.8 overnight rating from Nielsen Media Research, Street and Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.
The rating is 5 percent lower than the 4.0 ABC earned overnight for its broadcast of the fall Talladega race in 2008, when the event was run on the first weekend of October. The 3.8 is 11.8 percent higher than the 3.4 ABC earned overnight for its broadcast of the Texas Cup race on the first Sunday in November of 2008.

Nov 2, 2009 at 6:23 PMYou can make it 6% considering I slept through the boring commentary. ESPN, take a lesson from Speed who knows how to be entertaining even when it is a snoozer. Single file racing? Who wants to watch THAT? Thanks, Nascar, for scaring the drivers so much that all they did was ride around in a safe circle. YAWN.

Nov 2, 2009 at 7:50 PMI was really looking forward to the race--now, I don't know why.Boring is too little a word for it. The ratings are really going to slip now that there is no real challenge for the cup. I'm tired of hearing about jj, no matter what article you read. After the race, I realized that there should be a separate point system for the chase drivers. A lot of good chasers were knocked out because of a bad finish. I'll watch just because of smoke, but most fans I know are just through with Nascar.

Nov 2, 2009 at 9:51 PMI'd have to say this was a script taken right from wrestling. Totally a phony race. Come on Johnson, hanging back like he did when he could of went to the front anytime ??? Right..
Report as AbuseThis was NASCRAP's orders to try and drum up interests by having a car other than Hendrick up front..
I don't buy it...There were plenty of empty seats and TV audience was down even for Talladega. That must be a first...
Could it be the fans are tired of the Hendrick domination with Jr. left out ?

Nov 2, 2009 at 10:19 PMI don't think NASCAR is solely to blame for a bad Talladega race last Sunday. I think teams are getting hyper-risk adverse that's why Burton Smith made Bristol a two lane track. I think with the first 80 laps their was some collusion going on to not do anything to jeopardize points and really expensive cars. I was just as bored as Tony Stewart was for most of this race.
