7 reasons to watch the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono: No. 2 - Denny Hamlin
Watch this Sunday’s event at Pocono Raceway to see if Denny Hamlin can regain his mastery of the tricky triangle.
After winning in his first two starts there in 2006 – with the benefit of only simulated video-game experience prior to that – Hamlin reeled off three more top-10 finishes to make it 5-for-5 in that category for his career.
Unfortunately, for him and his No. 11 teammates, his last two finishes at Pocono have been uncharacteristically bad. Hamlin was 23rd in this event last year, and 38th when the Sprint Cup Series visited the 2.5-mile track in June.
While he’s sixth in points with six races remaining until the Chase For The Sprint Cup field is set, Hamlin’s cushion over 13th place is a surmountable 157 points.
Add to the fact that he’s still winless in 2009, and trying to rebound from a troubled 34th-place run at Indianapolis, and this Pocono event could prove to be pivotal in building some momentum for the Chase.
