Really, does anyone need help finding a reason to watch the popular night race at Bristol Motor Speedway? It’s like telling an avid football fan, “Hey, you should watch that Super Bowl, because it features the two best teams in football, and the winner takes home the championship!”

The Bristol night race is the race many fans look forward to each year, and not just the 170,000 or more fans in the seats and infield at the half-mile track. The race makes for great TV, too.

Here’s yet another reason to watch the race this year: How will Dale Earnhardt Jr. do?

After Earnhardt Jr.’s third-place finish at Michigan, his best finish since April, Junior Nation is ecstatic, thinking their driver is recharged and ready to reclaim his spot among the sport’s best drivers.

Bristol is fertile ground for Junior to make a statement that he’s truly back. Many fans have the perception that Earnhardt Jr. is only a threat on restrictor-plate and intermediate speedways, but he has shown some nice short-track skills, too. He won the August 2004 race at Bristol and has seven top-fives in 19 starts there. He’s led more laps at Bristol, 743, than at any other track besides Martinsville Speedway (758).

That’s a great record.

Earnhardt Jr. could make a statement with another great run this time around at Bristol. Yet another reason to watch the Sharpie 500.
