7 reasons to watch the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway: No. 3 - Jimmie Johnson

With a nearly insurmountable lead in the points, Jimmie Johnson would need to have trouble in two of the final three races for anyone to have a shot at the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup title. All he needs to do to secure an unprecedented fourth straight crown is finish 10th in each of the last three races, and he’s the champion since he already has a 184-point lead on Mark Martin and a 192-point lead on Jeff Gordon.

So this week's race at Texas Motor Speedway  isn’t a race to watch and see if Johnson wins. It’s one to watch to see if the Hendrick Motorsports driver has a mechanical failure (very doubtful), a mental failure (doubtful) or has some bad luck and gets caught up in somebody else’s mistake (possible but not likely). That’s the only hope of fans of Martin or Gordon or those from the anyone-but-Johnson fan club (aka the 48 haters).

    thats the last of my choices to watch...rather watch the paint dry or the grass grow...some day someday not this year, maybe by 2014

    The chase is a JOKE!!!!. If you're there to race, then race. If not, stay home. Riding in the back of the pack to "play it safe" is a crock. Perhaps NASCRAP should black flag the riders. The COT is boring. Let's get back to racing where you run what you brung.

    Best dream I've had in weeks: Some non-48 fan wins 24 million dollars in the lotto. The fan is sick of Johnson. He pays off one of the "needy" drivers to take out Jimmie. JJ comes in 43rd. A great cheer rises from the grandstands. The reporters cry in their beer. NASCAR gets the highest ratings of the season. Well, I can dream, can't I?

    We were told at Daytona that the blue car(I can't stand to say his name or number anymore,because the announcers have worn it out!)Nascar wants to make history so bad that losing fans and seat sales don't seem to matter anymore.The blue car gets by with infraction after infraction that everyone but Nascar seems to see,but will do nothing about.Maybe if King Hendrick and his court make history this year we can go back to seeing a fair and balanced playing field next season,but I seriously doubt it!

    And all you all hate Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jeff Gordon too right? They dominated during their time. Heck Richard won 27 races one season and won 10 in a row. Richard and Dale each won 7 Championships. So you all can't stand them either, correct? They all cheated (well Richard was for sure caught with a big motor once time) and/or had Nascar rig things for them too? Hmm... you all make me laugh. If it were your driver and team winning a lot and going for their 4th straight Championship you all would be over the top with happiness and the Chase would be wonderful and Nascar would be the most fair sport ever invented. Don't lie cause you would. You are all human. I'm a Jimmie Johnson fan and truthfully he and the team have rarely gotten the respect and accolades they deserve for as hard as they have worked to be the best team in Nascar. I'm thrilled to be witnessing Nascar history being made and will be at Homestead proudly cheering for my team.

    Well said PJ4JJ48, couldn't agree more. Johnson's numbers aren't even as good as Petty, Earnhardt, and Gordon in their primes, but somehow he is different to these people. I'm getting sick of all the negativity, but all these petty people can keep talking trash because the 48 already has 3 Cups and is doing his best to get the 4th. In time he will get the respect he deserves and in the mean time he will keep dominating and may make a run at that 7 Championship record.
