46 teams on preliminary NASCAR Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600 entry list
Forty-six teams are on the preliminary entry list for this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Part-time drivers entered in the race are Boys Will Be Boys Racing's David Starr, Phoenix Racing's Mike Bliss, Germain Racing's Max Papis and Wood Brothers Racing's Bill Elliott. Also, Tony Raines remains in the Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet as regular driver John Andretti is competing in the Indianapolis 500.
Ten teams will be competing for the seven spots available to those not in the top 35 in owner points. Elliott is locked into the field, if he fails to earn a berth through qualifying, by virtue of being the most recent past champion not in the top 35. Starr, Bliss, Papis, Raines, Tommy Baldwin's Scott Riggs, Gunselman Motorsports' Todd Bodine, Prism Motorsports' Dave Blaney, TRG Motorsports' David Gilliland, Red Bull Racing's Scott Speed and Nemco Motorsports' Joe Nemechek will vie for those seven positions.
Practices for the race begin Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT with qualifying scheduled for 7:10 that evening. The track is idle Friday, with practices resuming Saturday and the race scheduled for 5:45 p.m. EDT Sunday.
