The battle for starting position at Talladega Superspeedway will be intense, but only three NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will be going home if the entry list remains at its current 46 drivers between now and Saturday's qualifying session.
The 43 teams that have attempted to qualify for every race are entered for the Aaron’s 499 along with Morgan-McClure Motorsports’ Eric McClure, Germain Racing’s Max Papis and Furniture Row Racing’s Regan Smith.
Among teams that have used multiple drivers this year, Brad Keselowski is entered for Phoenix Racing while Geoff Bodine is entered in the Gunselman Motorsports car.
The drivers who are outside the top 35 in owners points and must, therefore, make the race based on qualifying speed are McClure, Keselowski, Papis, Scott Riggs (Tommy Baldwin Racing), Jeremy Mayfield (Mayfield Motorsports), Bodine, Dave Blaney (Prism Motorsports), David Gilliland (TRG Motorsports), Smith, Scott Speed (Red Bull Racing) and Joe Nemechek (Nemco Motorsports).
Teams that attempted last week’s race at Phoenix and are not entered at Talladega are H&S Motorsports, BlackJack Racing, Boys Will Be Boys Racing and Brandon Ash Racing.

Apr 20, 2009 at 3:27 PMAnd here's a testament to how much NASCAR teams are being affected by the sponsorship struggles and the cost of racing. We started with about 50 teams, and now we've got 43 remaining that have attempted every race. Let's hope though that if Brad Keselowski makes the race this weekend, James Finch will let him run the whole race and will stop his start-and-park plans for at least one race, not that I would think Hendrick would allow one of his drivers to be rented out to gain experience in a car running a partial race.

Apr 20, 2009 at 5:34 PMI hope that Regan Smith and Scott Riggs make it in. I'll be disappointed if they don't. Regan is deserving of it and he won't crash anyone out, like some often do.

Apr 21, 2009 at 8:47 AMI hope Regan Smith does good too. My picks are Reed Sorenson, AJ Allmendinger who just signed Hunt Bros Pizza as his sponsor, Elliott Sadler who is good at restrictor plate tracks like Sorenson, and Allmendinger, apparently. Other picks are: Kasey Kahne- he always has good runs, but someone ends up wrecking him sometimes, Kyle Busch- hasnt won since Bristol looking to see him win at a track where he's already won other than Bristol, Tony Stewart- has had an amazing season so far, he has had all top tens 3 of them are top fives except for Vegas and Bristol looking for his first win with Stewart Haas Racing look for Smoke on the track, Jeff Gordon- has had a good season so far and let's face it the man is good at Talladega, Dale Jr.- this could be the track where he snaps his winless streak, his record speaks for itself at Talladega, Mark Martin- coming off of his first win since 05, he is only a few points out of the cutoff look for Martin to win at 'dega. Paul Menard- has had a decent season so far runs good at Talladega, Martin Truex Jr.- hasnt won since 07 he also does good at Talladega, and last but not least Joey Logano, he could be the rookie of the race as long as he can avoid Biffle, Speed, and Robby Gordon who is good at Talladega as well, but dont get your hopes up on Robby.
