Forty-seven cars are on the preliminary entry list for this weekend's Southern 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway, though one has already withdrawn.
The No. 06 Boys Will Be Boys Racing entry had no driver listed and that team has already withdrawn.
Among the entries, Tony Raines is taking over the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Chevrolet as John Andretti focuses on the Indianapolis 500. Part-time teams entered in the race include Sterling Marlin in the No. 09 Phoenix Racing entry, Brad Keselowski in the No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Regan Smith in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet and Max Papis in the No. 13 Germain Racing entry.
Eleven teams will vie for the eight spots available to teams outside the top 35 in owner points: Marlin, Papis, Keselowski, Tommy Baldwin Racing's Scott Riggs, Mayfield Motorsports' Jeremy Mayfield, Gunselman Motorsports' Todd Bodine, Prism Motorsports' Dave Blaney, TRG Motorsports' David Gilliland, Smith, Red Bull Racing's Scott Speed and Nemco Motorsports' Joe Nemechek.
Practices for the Southern 500 begin Friday at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Qualifying follows at 5:10 p.m.
The race is slated for 7:20 p.m. EDT Saturday.

May 4, 2009 at 8:19 PMWhoa, I never thought I would ever hear some one trash Darrel Waltrip. Dang man you got issues. Try to reframe from the DW remarks, I never thought I would have to say that. No wonder you were #2. #1 Agreed Regan needs that for sure.

May 5, 2009 at 9:27 AMDawn, I don't think you will have to worry about Regan making the race. The teams that will miss this race won't have Hendrick power behind them.
Report as AbuseI noticed something about this race: the #78, #25, and #13 teams are all attempting it together. That's three-part time teams. If they weren't here, we'd have 43 cars on the entry list. NASCAR's worried about car counts, so we might see them let the 4-car rule slide if it means still getting to 43 cars a race. They want to see knockout qualifying, not "where do you start?" qualifying. We'll see something that will bring more than 43 cars to each race, and likely we'll see it from teams that are powerhouses, not more start-up teams.
