Earnhardt Jr. finds innovative ways to pass a rain delay

JOLIET, Ill. – Got some time to kill? Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a few recommendations for you.
 
During a heavy thunderstorm Thursday at Chicagoland Speedway, NASCAR’s most popular driver was asked how he would spend his time if he was stuck inside.
 
His answers were iTunes, a couple racing simulation web sites and YouTube.
 
“I go on iTunes a lot,” he said. “Does everybody remember the mini-series 'Lonesome Dove'? That just came out on DVD, they just released it, and iTunes has released it, so I downloaded that.
 
“I’ve got it on VHS, but the picture is horrible because it’s so old. But I watch that, because I like [characters] Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call – those are my two heroes.”
 
Earnhardt Jr., an avid online racer, names dmp-racing.com and iRacing.com as his two favorite sites for simulation racing.
 
He races every other Monday night on dmp-racing with fellow NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger and spotter T.J. Majors, and he does some beta testing for iRacing, which was founded in part by Roush Fenway Racing co-owner John Henry.
 
And then there’s YouTube, where Earnhardt Jr. said he watches “a lot of crazy videos.”
 
“That’s pretty fun,” he said. “You can see a couple good quotes from 'Lonesome Dove' on YouTube.”
 
Some people chuckled at his second "Lonesome Dove" reference, but he explained by saying, “Pretty simple. I’m simple.”
 
His favorite YouTube video just so happens to be one he’s in.
 
“The best YouTube video? The IROC race from Michigan from 1999 – ‘Closest IROC Finish’ is the name of it,” he said, referring to a classic race in which he lost to his late father by .007 second. “I love watching that.”

    Wow Sally... that's just plain CREEPY. On several levels. But.... what is even more bizarre is that an article on how Junior spends his time during a rain delay can be the highest rated article on this website currently! I can't wait to read an article describing what flavor jelly that Junior spread on his toast the day that Kyle Busch wins his first championship!

    WD...it just eats you up doesn't it? Why do you let it bother you so much? It is almost as though you take it personally. What did Jr ever do to you? Hmmmm, wonder what flavor jelly he does like? If I find out I will be sure and let you know. If there is ever an article on it I am sure you will be the first to read it.

    4da88, I'm impressed with your writing---keep up the good work! We can only hope that Pee Wee doesn't represent the sport as the champ. That would certainly be sad. Even worse is Toyota being in the limelight. Worm, don't reveal who you are pulling for--- you always act as if you are neutral-- just a caring race fan---tsk, tsk!

    Mr. or Mrs. 4da88..... I have NO problem with Junior. I'm just fascinated by a certain aspect of the circus that surrounds him. Thanks for falling into my trap though! How do you NOT know that Junior's favorite jelly is CONCORDE-GRAPE? You really consider yourself a REAL Junior fan and you don't know that? I bet you don't even know which brand of toothpaste he favors! Your resignation from Junior Nation has been accepted. I'm sorry it had to end like this. Good luck.

    OMG, How funny!! I really doubt WD knows 'if' Jr eats breakfast; let alone 'what' he eats. Eh, trap or no I just laugh, bothers me not. I am, just to use his/her term, "fascinated" by someone, definitely with issues with Dale Jr, who reliously reads Dale Jr aritcles as any avid fan. TY Emily for your words.

    I have watched that video many times. I heard that Jr. thought Rusty pushed Sr. I disagree. Rusty pushed Jr. and then when Jr. & Sr. got side by side, Rusty backed off kind of in the middle behind them. Then right at the end he kind of moves behind Sr. but really dove down to the apron. It had to be a heck of a show for Rusty and I don't think he would push Sr. past Jr. I guess Jr. knows because he was there, but it doesn't really look like Rusty pushed Sr. that much. Of course, Sr. would have wrecked Jr. to win...but it would have been good to see Jr. win. That was the one that got away bud.

We're a darn good bunch of loyal, fun loving fans who support our driver--no matter what.     worm - you wont have to read an article on what jelly dale jr spreads on his toast when crybaby kyle wins his (maybe) 1st title, the article will actually be what brand of kleenex kyle uses to wipe away tears when dale junior wins it this year cause as we've all seen this year if kyle loses he goes & pouts like a crybaby does

    It's no fun unless you have someone to trash talk about. I love Jr., Kyle, Kyle P,Mikey, Truix, Jr., Tony, all of them. But, I still trash talk with my kids who root for #24. I tried to raise them right but something went wrong I guess.

    Sorry to hear that Geri.I have been blessed to have a house full of Dale Jr.fans.Even my grandson I think loves Jr. As for trash talk,it's ok. I think it make being a loyal fan fun.But if you want to talk that stuff,at least have the guts to leave your name.
